Shields Street Natural
Gas Project

Overview

We replaced approximately one mile of natural gas line along Shields Street between Drake and Horsetooth roads in Fort Collins, Colorado. This marked the next phase of a multi-year natural gas project in Fort Collins, as well as the third phase of work taking place on Shields Street.

This work allows us to continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service and enhances system resiliency during extreme weather.

Construction updates

Tuesday, November 11, 2025

Crews have completed construction and restoration of the Shields Street Natural Gas Project along Shields Street, between Drake and Horsetooth roads. We plan to return in 2026 to construct the next phase of the project near Shields Street and Horsetooth Road.

It was our pleasure to work in your community, and we thank you for your patience and cooperation.

How it affects you

During work, you may have noticed:

  • Marking of utility lines and utility survey holes.
  • Road and sidewalk closures.
  • Traffic control.
  • Temporary changes to access.
  • Construction noise.

We installed natural gas line by open trenching and boring.

  • Open trenching involved digging a trench and placing the natural gas line in the trench.
  • Boring used a bore machine to create an underground pathway through which the line is pulled or drilled.

We are committed to maintaining a safe working environment in your community. For your safety and the safety of our crews, remember these tips:

  • Watch for construction crews and equipment.
  • Do not enter construction areas.
  • Obey signage and directions from crews.
  • Reduce speeds while traveling.
  • Observe parking restrictions.
  • Remain flexible as work progresses and work areas change.

We restored work areas to conditions required by permits as the weather allowed. Work areas may have been left temporarily restored after construction until we can complete final restoration.

Schedule

Construction began in May 2025 and concluded in Fall 2025.

Schedules are subject to change.
