Overview
Xcel Energy will relocate natural gas line north of the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Elberta Avenue in Palisade, Colorado.
This work will accommodate construction in the area and ensure natural gas system safety.
We are completing our work in advance of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s U.S. 6 Palisade Intersection Improvements Project which will add a roundabout and realign existing intersections in the area.

Construction updates
Friday, January 9, 2026
During the week of January 12, crews will work in the following areas:
- Elberta Avenue, between U.S. Highway 6 and 350 feet north of U.S. Highway 6
- Full road closure, follow posted detours.
- Restoration activities.
- 8th Street Frontage Road, between Elberta Avenue and 300 feet west of Elberta Avenue
- Full road closure, follow posted detours.
- Restoration activities.
Crews will work Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In certain circumstances, crews may work evenings, nights or weekends.
We are completing our work in advance of CDOT’s US 6 Palisade Intersection Improvements Project which will add a roundabout and realign existing intersections in the area.
Schedules are subject to change.
How it affects you
We will implement full road closures along Elberta Avenue north of U.S. Highway 6 and on 8th Street Frontage Road, west of Elberta Avenue. Local access will be maintained, through traffic follow posted detours.
During construction, you may notice:
- Marking of utility lines and utility survey holes.
- Road and sidewalk closures.
- Traffic control.
- Temporary changes to access.
- Construction noise.
Installation will utilize open trenching which involves digging a trench and placing the natural gas line in the trench.
We are committed to maintaining a safe working environment in your community. For your safety and the safety of our crews, remember these tips:
- Watch for construction crews and equipment.
- Do not enter construction areas.
- Obey signage and directions from crews.
- Reduce speeds while traveling.
- Observe parking restrictions.
- Remain flexible as work progresses and work areas change.
We’ll restore work areas to conditions required by permits as weather allows. Work areas may be left temporarily restored after construction until we can complete final restoration.
Schedule
Construction is expected to begin in November 2025 and will continue through January 2026.
Construction will occur Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In certain circumstances, we may be required to work evenings or weekends.
